What is Batik?

ba·tik (bə-tēk', bāt'ĭk)
Noun
A method of dyeing a fabric by which the parts of the fabric not intended to be dyed are covered with removable wax.
To dye (fabric) using this method: batiked a T-shirt.

I've never given Antik Batik a chance simply because the name meant nothing to me.  Well today my coworker said my scarf looked a lot like Batik.  I was like wha wha?  Well apparently every hippie out there knows what batik is and it originates somewhere in Asia.  It's sort of like tie-dye but more difficult when it's hand made.

The clothes aren't bad.  This purple number really jumped out at me on Net-A-Porter.  It's made of wool with gorgeous sequin embellishment and fluttery sleeves.  $460 doesn't seem like a lot when the model is carrying a Miu Miu clutch that's $895.
Which brings me to this other piece that I'm not particularly fond of.   The Chewbacca vest.  I'm sorry, it's Mongolian inspired, not Chewie inspired.  It's also by Antik Batik and made of lambskin and polyster.  In my opinion, not worth the $665 price tag.  Give me $665 and I will wear that for a day.

Now I used to love fur and all furry things really .  I'm liking it less now because it seems kind of cumbersome. Plus chinchillas and minks are adorable creatures - wearing dead chinchillas and minks is just plain sad.
